ANTM cycle 21 episode 3: "Stringin' In the Rain"

Previously on America’s Next Top Model, the models were challenged to a fashion check in a train. Though the models were subpar in the subway; Matthew was victorious. They later shot at the beach, where 14 of them keep to the tide. Who will be eliminated tonight? Who will get best picture? What will Adam put a percentage on next?

With only fourteen models left, romance lingers in the air. Matthew and Adam continue their bromance when they size up the competition. “I’m not attracted to many girls,” Matthew says as he sleeps on Adam’s chest. “But for Mirjana, I’ll make an exception.” A firm believer of ‘bros before hos’, Adam vows to exact revenge on Mirjana.

Strung Out

The models are then taken to a runway, where they will be nude with only string hanging from their bodies. Adam appears very comfortable in the nude until he sets foot onto the runway. Realizing his sinful lack of tact, the audience quickly clothes him with silly string; hoping to improve his walk. Afterwards, Adam gets angry when the other models suggest his walk “wasn’t serious enough”. Watching this felt like some weird retelling of the exit from the Garden of Eden.

Adam & Peeve

The disappointment continues when Ivy hits the catwalk. Miss Jay laments the styling; saying that her ‘80s look doesn’t fit this “modern fashion” challenge. I don’t know what you mean, Miss Jay. Blonde pixie cuts, ugly clothing, orgies in silly string? That’s what the ‘80s were all about!

Keith is also thinking about better times. Now that his football career is over, he wants to be a professional model. Those two are virtually the same thing anyway: standing in one spot, obnoxious screaming, and requiring no skill. So, when Keith trades the pigskin for bare skin, the audience goes wild. Miss Jay calls him a “crowd pleaser,” and praises his commitment to the walk.

Backstage, the guys go wild when Kari derobes. She feeds off the energy but ultimately, reminds them that she is here for the competition. Sorry boys but if you like it…

Then Ya Shoulda Put A String On It

By the end of the fashion show, Keith was able to score the winning touchdown. For his victory, Miss Jay awarded him a key to the Tyra Suite. Hoping Kari will touch his down, Keith chooses to drag her into the room as well.

After the shoot, the models get to enter their new home. The mansion is stocked full of expensive items and has a ‘natural disasters’ theme. In addition, there are random pictures of the judges in every crevice of the space. The only insufferable weather I would fear is a…

Yunami

Couple that with a Tyrade and I’m sure we could destroy the world! Anyway, the Tyra Suite is finally unveiled for Keith and Kari. The room is full of free clothing from Guess (which won’t be worn very long) and...baby pictures of Tyra? It seems like Tyra is providing the couple some encouragement.

While Keith and Kari make the house quake, the remaining models experience another freak accident: their challenge scores. Chantelle and Keith grace the top while Adam and Ivy tread the bottom with 6s. Contemplating this, the models are stopped with a Tyra Mail.

“H2T. H2OMG, Luv, T.”

It’s strangely poetic, but then again; what else can you expect from a Harvard graduate?

When It Rains, It Bores

The next day, the models are met by Tyra and Yu Tsai. She announces that they will be filming the opening theme song. Tyra proclaims that she wants to see the guys “boom boom boom” (I’m sure this mention will be Fergie’s only hit in all of 2014). She then tells the models they will be drenched in water in slow-motion.

When Raelia walks on set, her styling makes her look like a hot R&B star. Unfortunately, when the water hits her, she loses all of that glamour. Her wanky expressions didn’t help her either.

Dumbrella

One by one, the other models also fail at this shoot. Ivy struggles with her body movements and Will can’t gain the confidence to perform. When Kari gets on set, she gives Yu the right amount of sex appeal. It’s crazy how similar male models are similar to Chia pets. Just add water to the girls, and watch them grow harder and harder!

Denzel is next to take a cold shower after Kari’s shoot. He impresses the crew with his rock-hard abs, but his body doesn’t give the same variety. Romeo, on the other hand, has a very “current look” that translates well into his photo.

After the shoot, the models return home to a Tyra Mail about the impending elimination.

Stressed about his weak performance, Adam starts drinking. Feeling hurt by Mirjana, Matthew defends the boy when she calls out him out. “Why...you telling me to stahp,” Adam stutters, “I...I can stop wendever. I got a…1500 on my SAT.”

Mirjana, not impressed with Adam’s score on the Simple Alcoholics Test, channels Oprah during the fight. "You're going home, and you're going home, and you're ALL GOING HOME!!" she roars. Matthew, unfazed by the shrieking mogul, calmly tells Mirjana that she is in the wrong. Physically fuming at his words, Mirjana lets Matthew check under his chair to find...a new (s)car!

PANEL
Matthew: Tyra is not impressed with his lack of intensity. He receives a triad of 8s.
Shei: Miss Jay fears that she straddles the line between hoochy and sexy. She’s gets a 6, 7, and 8.
Romeo: Tyra loves the “masculine androgyny.” He gets a 7, 8, and 9.
Adam: Kelly is “scared” of his pose. She gives him a 7, along with Miss Jay’s 6. Tyra, however, loves the “energy” he brings to set and awards him a 9.
Denzel: Miss Jay worries he is “too pumped” to be a fashion model. He gets two 8s and a 7.
Raelia: She had many bad frames and a mediocre final photo. She gets two 7s and a 6.
Ben: Kelly likes his body but doesn’t see any variety in his face. He gets two 7s and an 8.
Mirjana: She has the body but no passion in her face. She gets two 7s and a 9 from Tyra.
Ivy: Miss Jay comments that there is no energy, and Kelly agrees that the pose is “too men’s magazine.” She receives all 7s.
Chantelle: Kelly doesn’t like the “dramatic energy” and lands on a 6. Miss Jay and Tyra, however, love that it “catches a moment” and give her 8s.
Kari: The eye “dances” along this picture; so Kari is given two 8s and a 6.
Lenox: This is Kelly’s favorite picture. The others like her willingness to be sexy. Lenox is handed two 8s and a 9.
Despite Tyra’s fear of his manaconda, she gives him a 10! Kelly is less impressed and he is given a 7 and 9.

Will: Tyra loves the controlled energy and gives him a 9. Kelly hates his “messy” look and bombs him with a 5. Miss Jay is neutral with his 7.

“Now the judges and I will add up these scores to see who will still be in the running toward becoming America’s Next Top Model.”
