Before she reveals whether Chantelle or Ben will be the model re-entering the competition, she decides to let them show their worth. Chantelle states that she is proud of making it this far and wants to be a role model for young girls. With that, Tyra announces that, with a score of 6.68 to 6.44, the eighth model in the running is…
CHANTELLE. Even though he’s disappointed, Ben is still glad to have had this experience. To celebrate his time on Top Model, he dedicates his swan song to the cast of cycle 21:
“Rising up, just H2T,
Took my time, took my chances,
Made out with Will, now I’m up for discreet,
Lots of fights, that’s the Top Model life.
It’s the Smize of the Tiger,
It’s the cold Spyderbyte.
Booching boy coming down
from Staten Isle.
It’s the Smize of the Tiger,
Hair half-black and half-white.
And there are no survivors,
When Cutrone starts to smite,
Cuz she’s judging us all with
the Smize of the Tiger.”
Back in the house, Will is greeted with his digitally displayed photo. He is granted an additional “special treat” in a box. Is it a new pair of heels? An account on Tindr? Denzel’s amputated beard weave?
Will gets something even better than all of that. Screw Chantelle, Will is given the opportunity to meet the true comeback star of this cycle: the Line App.
Will calls his mother and finally gets to hear her voice after two months in the competition. After a couple of exchanges, he notices that there is an echo. The call is coming from inside the house!
Will is very excited that his parents had come from Texas in order to visit him in the Top Model house. After the drama with Denzel, he wants to know that he is being supported by people who love him.
While his mom receives him with open arms, Will’s father is a little more bashful. He “had problems” accepting Will’s sexuality before the competition, but is slowly coming too. After seeing his son getting along so well with the other models, there is general acceptance in the air. To celebrate the good news, they decide to dance:
Their shoulders may be disconnected, but the models sure aren’t. After some more bonding time with his parents, Will joins the others for their next challenge.
The models are taken to an abandoned warehouse (guess The CW has gotten new offices!). Yu Tsai announces that the models will walk through the “pitch black” slaughterhouse while monsters pop out and make loud screeches. In the middle of this Tsai family reunion, the models must pose for horror photographs by The Cobrasnake.
(Sidenote: I’m so confused about this man. Do we formally address him as Cobrasnake, The? Is Cobrasnake a family name? It must be 22% European Jewish or something...)
Yu Tsai decides to bring out the most fear in every model by terrorizing them during the shoot. Adam tries to outsmart the man by scaring the monsters instead. Once again, Adam proves those seven years of college have done him well!
Lenox enters the space and is immediately terrified. As she traverses through this tunnel full of condoms and mood lighting, the virgin Lenox poses coyly. When Mirjana enters the space, she is visited by the Ghost of Boyfriends Past. However, due to the sheer number; she becomes distracted on set and fails to get good frames.
Likewise, Raelia is manipulated by the horror scene happening before her. She is not happy with these random monsters groping her (#virginproblems). Even though she is scared out of her mind, Raelia ends up hitting ‘fear’ce poses:
The Hills Have Smize
Back in the house, the models start to turn against Chantelle. They believe she doesn’t want to be there, and start to distance from the girl.
But don’t fret, Chantelle! The models may not love you, but you still love yourself. And with that concept in mind, Miss Jay decides to do a “self-love” photoshoot. Inspired by his personal history with HIV and AIDS prevention, Miss Jay encourages the models to pose with gloves and spread the message.
Also affected by the cause, Tyra decides to join along and do the models’ makeup. They shoot with some high-fashion gloves and then shoot another picture to be spliced together.
After a talk with Tyra backstage, Mirjana admits that Denzel’s departure has “thrown her off her game” a bit. When she gets behind the camera, Yu says that she is “half-assing” the shoot. (She only full-asses for Denzel!)
No stranger to “self-love,” Adam ironically starts off with a bang. He gets the perfect shot within two minutes (not too surprising) and impresses the photographer with his mastery of the concept.
(Con)domination
During Raelia’s shoot, there is some hesitation to the sexy prompt. Alongside Lenox, Raelia attempts to embrace the concept but struggles with the execution of the shoot.
When Will takes off his shirt for the shoot, he is immediately uncomfortable. He has some confidence issues that stem from being teased as a child. These insecurities are not helped by Yu Tsai’s insistent screams that Will should “suck his gut in”.
Nevertheless, he looks fine in his pictures. To those people telling Will he’s not fit enough to model, you can kiss his
Now that the models have finished their shoot, Tyra announces that only seven of them will be allowed to travel to Seoul, Korea.
Panel
Tyra loves the “tonality” in Chantelle’s picture, but questions her sincerity now that’s she back in the competition. Still, she gets two 9s and an 8.
Kelly fears there is commitment in Mirjana’s face and hands her a 6. Likewise, Miss Jay comments that she looks “tiny” and gives her a 7 alongside Tyra.
There is a “delicacy” about Lenox’s pose. Tyra gifts her an “exuberant” 9 and the others deem it an 8.
Miss Jay swears that the “masculinity” in Adam’s photo is fascinating and gives him an 8. Tyra lauds it with a 9 and the new phrase “blue suede steel.” Kelly settles for a 7.
Tyra remembers that Keith needed a lot of coaching on set and, along with the judges, give him two 7s and an 8.
Despite the “unconformability” of Will’s pose, he gets two 7s and an 8 for the confidence in his face.
Shei is “telling a story” in her photo. Miss Jay settles for an 8, but Kelly hates the dramatic pose: deeming it a 6. Tyra tries to balance out that score with a 10, calling Shei’s shot “amazing.”
Even though Tyra knows Raelia works hard on set, she can’t quite deliver the goods. The judges pity her hard work with two 7s and an 8.
